Features of the Island include:
- Visit Queensland’s first lighthouse at Cape Moreton (built in 1857, from island sandstone) and stand atop the island’s headland, and take in the island’s breathtaking views.
- Chance to see marine animals in the surrounding waters including turtles, dolphins and also migrating humpback whales (in May to November)
- Climb Mount Tempest, the southern hemisphere’s tallest vegetated sand dune, and take in panoramic views out over the bay.
- Visit the ruins of Rous Battery, a frontline defence in World War II.
- Walk through The Desert, created over thousands of years by currents and prevailing winds moving individual grains of sand.
- Swim, Kayak or Paddle board in Blue Lagoon, a freshwater oasis set amid flowering heathland.
